Some are broken due to mutual agreement, however, most are broken up by one of the people in the relationship being un-loyal and acting unfaithful. Staying loyal to your partner is something everyone who wants a strong, long lasting relationship should be focusing on. Young couples often dream about growing old together, unfortunately, relationships dont always work out this way. To make a marriage work takes hard work, focus, commitment, self belief, and mutual understanding. Day to day activities and events give partners shared experiences, and memories. By Charles Parselle Every mediated negotiation oscillates between doubt and certainty. Parties seek certainty even though very often they are besieged by doubts. People entering negotiations experience apprehension, which is another word for fear, though fear expressed at a low level of intensity. The reason they have come to a mediator is because they did not feel able to achieve a negotiated result on their own. Therefore, a mediated negotiation is already, almost by definition, a negotiation which has either gone wrong or has never begun or which has a doubtful prognosis. During the course of most peoples lives, they are negotiating at various times for various things and millions of negotiations are accomplished every day without the need for the intervention of an experienced mediator. Thus from the outset we see that a mediated negotiation contains elements of difficulty which have led the parties to be willing to spend money on the expert services of a professional in the particular field. Generally speaking, a party must experience doubt in order to arrive at a mediated solution. The experience of doubt is uncomfortable. The experience of certainty is much more pleasant. People seek certainty in order to avoid the pain of doubt. A party to a negotiation has usually achieved a measure of certainty with regard to the position that they are taking, and that certainty which is a mental state is fortified and buttressed by all kinds of sorts, considerations, feelings, emotions, attitudes and arguments, all of which are themselves mental states. However, the nature of a negotiation is that a mutually satisfied outcome can never be reached unless each party is prepared to change position. Such change involves movement from a well-fortified position into a position of doubt. The process of moving from one position to another is mentally taxing, which is why the presence of a mediator can be of great help and comfort. As soon as the parties have arrived at a different position, they will dig in with all kinds of arguments and considerations, emotional ideas and attitudes, and they will gradually or rapidly achieve a degree of certainty about the new position that they have now assumed. It may be necessary for the parties to move position many times before they reach the zone of possible agreement. That is why they must oscillate between certainty and doubt again and again, and that is why many people would rather resort to conflict, precisely because it is possible to enter a conflict without ever having to change ones mind or experience the kind of mental tension that is involved in changing ones mind. Many organizations including government departments where the procedures for taking decisions are institutionalized and cumbersome, find it easier to leave the decision up to somebody else rather than go through the stress and trouble of taking decisions internally. Many cases go to trial because one or other or both of the parties are simply unwilling to engage in the difficult task of negotiating a settlement. The task of the mediator, if such parties are willing to enter into mediated negotiation, is to help them overcome the internal barriers to achieving the changes necessary to avoid a third party outcome. Of course, many times the reason a matter proceeds to trial or other conflict is because one or both of the parties have simply misread the situation in reality. All negotiations have an internal and an external aspect. The internal aspect is the individuals own subjective reactions to what is going on. The external reality is what the legal system is designed to deal with; in fact, the legal system is designed to squeeze out of the process all mental or emotional reaction and to delineate only the facts that can be adduced in evidence that are relevant, that is to say, that have a bearing on the legal issue presented to the court. But here as well, the mediator has a vital role to play, in being a sounding board against which the parties can test the reality of their own view of the situation. Thus we see that parties may have a distorted view of reality, in addition to having inappropriate emotional attitudes to the problem. This is called the difference the real negotiation and the shadow negotiation, and the expert mediator needs to be expert in dealing with these different aspects. In this way, the task of the mediator is more complex than the task of a court, which has had all the emotional side of it squeezed out by the rules of evidence, so that a dry problem can then be presented for a legal resolution. But such resolutions are often unsatisfactory to both sides, and they are always unsatisfactory to the losing side. Although mediated negotiation is difficult, and often far more trying on the parties than a trial itself, nonetheless it has the exquisite advantage that it results in a solution arrived at by the parties themselves. Such negotiated resolutions are far more stable. They not only result in finality, but also in a release of emotional burden on both sides. They are thus a healing experience, and to this extent are a far more civilized and sophisticated method of resolving disputes than the legal system, which merely declares a winner and a loser. By William Bell, Jr. Number One: Use the internal evidence of the book to determine the approximate date of authorship. It’s important to know when the book was written because it is prophetic. When the wrong date is assigned, it completely obscures the message. Most want to assign a late date (95 or 96 A.D.) to the book of Revelation. The external evidence suggests it was written before the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70. Number Two: Pay careful attention to the time statements. Revelation has time parameters in the beginning, middle and end of the book which serve as chronological guidelines for the events of the message. These time statements are: Things which must shortly take place. (Rev. 1:1; 22:6) The time is near (Rev. 1:3) Do not seal the words of this prophecy (Rev. 22:10) The time is at hand (22:10) I am coming quickly (22:12) Each of these statements indicates that the time of fulfillment was near and would be completed in a short time. Number Three: Allow the symbols in the book to be guided by the time statements. For example, the millennium (thousand years reign) cannot be literal. It falls within the shortly to come to pass time frame. The message of Revelation is fulfilled within forty years of Jesus’ death. That does not allow for a literal one thousand years. Therefore the 1000 years is symbolical. Number Four: The book is a tale of two cities. One is old Jerusalem, identified as the great city where also our Lord was crucified.” (Revelation 11:8) No point in the New Testament is clearer than that of Jesus’ death in Jerusalem. He stated emphatically that “It cannot be that a prophet perishes outside of Jerusalem.” (Luke 13:33) Jesus was not crucified in Rome, nor was he ever in the city of Rome. The other city is New Jerusalem. See Hebrews 12:22; Revelation 22:1. As in Galatians chapter 4:21-31, the two cities contrasted are earthly Old Covenant Jerusalem and the heavenly or New Jerusalem. Number Five: The message of Revelation is the expanded prophecy of Daniel 2, 7, and 12. This being the case, Revelation is a reiteration of Old Testament prophecy. Compare the features of the beast of Daniel chapter 7:1-8, with that of Revelation 13:1, 2. This is Rome, –ancient Rome and not a new Rome composed of a confederacy of the European Union. Time passes, whether you make a change or not. Why not make a change and notice yourself getting more fit as time passes? Every Monday comes around quicker than ever. A week’s gone by. Did you do anything positive toward your goal of losing weight during that week or did you put it off again? Did you start out Monday with enthusiasm only to watch it disappear by Wednesday? If you use EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) to work on the emotional issues, you can end the underlying anxieties over how long it will take once and for all. Here are some EFT suggestions for the “How Long Will This Take” question and “Why is this taking so long?” “Even though this is taking too long, I deeply and completely accept myself.” “Even though I wish the weight was gone, I deeply and completely accept myself.” “Even though I can’t wait for results, I deeply and completely accept myself.” “Even though I’m sick of this stupid weight, I deeply and completely accept myself.” “Even though I want this done and over, I deeply and completely accept myself.” It only takes a minute to do a round of EFT so do as many rounds as are necessary to bring your SUD level to a 2 or lower. Some people stop using EFT because it seems too easy, or they are actually getting a good result but then something stops them from continuing. What do you think could be the problem? More issues perhaps? Exactly! When you find yourself thinking, “Oh, I don’t need to do this anymore,” or “This is silly,” or “This is a waste of time, I’ll never lose the weight so why bother …” that’s a perfect opportunity to use EFT on those limiting beliefs. The words you use to make the statement are the words you’ll use while tapping: “Even though I don’t see why I should have to keep doing this, I deeply and completely accept myself.” “Even though I think I look silly, I deeply and completely accept myself.” “Even though this is stupid and a waste of time, I deeply and completely accept myself.” “Even though I’ll never lose this weight, and I don’t know why I bother trying, I deeply and completely accept myself.” Do a round of EFT every time you catch yourself in a negative frame of mind and you’ll soon find you have less and less of those moments. Are We There Yet? Many people call and ask me, “How long will this take,” as if we were removing a stain from a favorite sweater. This is life people! Start now and within six months to a year you can be either at your goal or so much closer than you’ve been before. Plan to do something every day to work toward what you want, and plan to move away from those behaviors you’d like to leave behind, a little at a time. Small changes build up over time to create big results. Long standing emotional issues may take many months to resolve but so what? It’s like the 17-year old who worries that medical school takes four more years after college. “That’s eight years!” they cry. Yes, that does seem like a long time, but that time will pass whether you attend school or not; the time will pass whether you do something about your emotional issues, or not, life happens while we’re busy making other plans to paraphrase John Lennon. When I received an invitation to my 30-year high school reunion that eight year commitment for medical school suddenly didn’t seem like such a big deal since I would have completed it 22 years ago. Commit to giving yourself a year to achieve the goals you want for yourself. Then break that year down into months, weeks, days, and then just take it one day at a time. Most of those who take my eight week course end up saying how quickly the weeks fly by; many ask for more time. If you think of it as if you’re taking a class at college, then you’re more likely to commit to the daily exercises (homework) and do what is necessary to achieve a passing grade (get a result). It’s up to you to take the tools you’ve been given and start to use them. Do it today.
