Water, Diet Sodas And Weight Loss

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

By Donovan Baldwin What on earth does water have to do with weight loss? Actually, a lot more than you previously imagined. Are you aware that some studies have shown that your brain cannot distinguish between hunger and thirst? Sometimes when your body is telling you that you are thirsty, your brain may be hearing that you are hungry. So what do you do? You put food in your mouth when a glass of water might have been sufficient. Most food has calories, most water doesn’t. Simple equation. ‘Nuff said on that topic. By the way, ever wake up in the middle of the night and crave a snack? Nine times out of ten, a glass of water will do the trick. I know, I didn’t believe it either until I tried it. It really works! Tissue, muscle, cells, even blood are all comprised to a large per cent of water. When your brain starts getting signals that water is needed…well, remember the confusion factor mentioned above? We eat something instead of giving our body what it really craves and needs! Your entire body works much better, by the way, when the fluid levels are kept up where they need to be. BUT I DRINK LOTS OF LIQUID AND STILL GAIN WEIGHT! Sure you do, but what KIND of liquid. I won’t even talk about sodas, coffee, or tea sweetened with sugar. I’m going to assume that you already know that sugar is not the way to go if you want to lose weight, but what about the artificially sweetened drinks? Did you know… ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS CAN CAUSE YOU TO GAIN WEIGHT? Some studies have shown that using artificial sweeteners can contribute to weight gain in at least two ways. First, there is the confusion factor. When you use artificial sweeteners, you, and your brain, become confused about the calorie content of the food you eat. You may actually find yourself eating more in an effort to satisfy an internal urge or interpretation, and this urge may be related to the assumed “fact” that the sweet soda you just drank didn’t have that many calories, so neither does this cinnamon roll. Actually, before artificial sweeteners, our bodies and brains were pretty good at relating calorie content to food based on the sweetness. A WORD FOR PARENTS! Our bodies’ understanding of “sweetness” and the development of the internal calorie estimating apparatus mentioned above apparently occurs in childhood. Early use of artificial sweeteners could cause the grown-up years later to ingest more of sweet foods than they should. The second way in which artificial sweeteners may contribute to weight gain is what could be called… THE SUGAR TRAP! Your body is a complicated device which has developed a huge number of inter-related, synergistic, stimulus sensing and automatic response mechanisms. It has learned to begin things happening inside when something sweet is detected. The digestive system is prepared to receive a certain type of fuel…which it welcomes! When you ingest food or drink which has been artificially sweetened, all your little hormones, glands, cells, and systems begin asking, “What’s going on?” Like prisoners in an old movie, they start rattling their tin cups and yelling out, “FEED ME!” Oh yeah, that was the plant in “Little Shop Of Horrors”, wasn’t it? Anyway, your internal messengers are now not very happy, nor will they be until you send down some calories for them to munch on. See the trap? It reminds me of when I managed a restaurant when people would order a salad and diet drink and then smother the salad in high-calorie, high-fat dressing and have ice cream for dessert. Get the picture. WAIT! IT MIGHT EVEN BE WORSE! Artificial sweeteners are much sweeter than ordinary sugar, and that’s why you can sweeten a cup of coffee with one little white pill. However, there are some studies which indicate that artificial sweeteners become somewhat addictive. If that isn’t bad enough, this brings us to one of the most popular drugs in America… CAFFEINE Even though a lot of people who want to lose weight are drinking artificially sweetened drinks, a lot of these drinks - coffee, tea, sodas - contain caffeine. Caffeine is a diuretic. It dehydrates you, causing your body to lose water. Remember, water = good. When you are dehydrated, low on internal liquid, your metabolism slows down. This means your body gets by on fewer calories and stores the rest as fat. Think it through: You get dehydrated, you get thirsty. You just drank a cup of tea, coffee, or soda, so you can’t be thirsty, can you? Since your brain can’t really tell the difference between hunger and thirst signals, it tells you to eat something when all that’s really going on is that you need a drink of water. SO WHAT CAN YOU DO? 1. Substitute water for most of the other stuff you’re drinking. 2. “Buy” your artificially sweetened drinks. My wife came up with this idea, but I have seen it used in other contexts as well. If you drink an artificially sweetened drink and/or one with caffeine, buy it back with at least an equivalent sized drink of water. Eight ounces of coffee? Follow it with eight ounces of water. 3. Is water boring for you? Then try flavoring your water with lemon or something else. Use herbal teas that have their own flavor and might not even need to be sweetened. 4. Include soups and juices in your diet. These are high liquid content. Just be aware that while nutritionally better for you than diet drinks or drinks with caffeine, they DO contain calories. 5. Can’t do without sweetened drinks? Try stevia. This is a natural food additive available online and at most health food stores. While it has a sweetening effect, the FDA does not allow it to be called or marketed as a sweetener. Due to its chemical makeup, it does not seem to produce the cravings for more food as do other non-sugar sweeteners. I read that in a book, but I tried Stevia and that’s how it worked for me. I was drinking four to eight cups of coffee sweetened with artificial sweeteners a day, and munching tons of snacks as I drank the coffee! I started using stevia, and the desire for constant snacking went away. I will warn you, while technically VERY sweet, it does have an acquired taste. I figure if I could get used to it, anybody could. It’s the only sweetener in our house now. Donovan Baldwin is a Dallas area writer. Photography And The Cell Phone

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Roberto_Sedycias]Roberto Sedycias Nearly every modern cell phone (telefone celular) has a camera feature. Though they are far away from modern age digital camera, cell phone cameras can still be used to produce good quality photographs. The cell phone (telefone celular) has some additional features that are not yet available on digital cameras and so may even be able to provide some advantages. The best way to obtain quality photographs is to understand the specifications that are available on these devices, enabling you to make an informed decision when choosing your mobile product, ensuring that it meets your requirements. The size of the cell phone (telefone celular) screen will affect the quality of viewing on your phone only. It will not affect the quality of your photograph when downloaded to your computer. However, the pixels that your cell phone camera uses will affect the quality of the image a great deal. The minimum resolution you should use is 1.0 mega pixels if photographic images are an important feature for you. Higher resolution of 3.0 mega pixels and up is available on current cell phones (telefone celular). The higher the number of pixels, the better quality the photographic image will be when reproduced. This is because the pixels are the amount of dots used to create the image; the more that are used, the less the image will break up when enlarged. The memory size of your device will directly affect the number of photographs that you can store. This will affect your output, and also give you less scope for getting that perfect shot. Your device will detail how much memory it contains, and this amount is usually very low, to store only a few photographic images. However, the memory capacity can be supplemented by purchasing a memory card that is compatible with your cell phone (telefone celular). The largest currently available is as much as 2 Gigabytes, which can store large numbers of photographs. The exact number will vary as the number of pixels directly affects the amount of memory used. The settings of your picture image can often be changed also. The picture quality is better the higher the resolution you choose. Lower resolutions take up less memory and so can be useful if you just want to send images to friends and family, if are running low on space or if the quality is not of importance. It is also important that you can store your pictures. If you purchase a cell phone memory card (telefone celular), make sure that it also be compatible with your computer or that it can be hooked up to a USB that is computer compatible. Your device should also come with a USB that you can use to download your pictures. This enables you to clear your cell phone regularly, maximising the use of the camera feature. Once stored, your photographs can be manipulated using programs such as Photoshop, as with any other photographic image. A major advantage of a camera is that it can be used to send pictures direct to friends and family with a compatible cell phone (telefone celular). These can be sent via multi media messages, which although relatively expensive are now appearing in cell phone contracts as part of a package. Digital photos can also be sent via email if the cell phone (telefone celular) is internet enabled. Any photographic image can be sent for free via infra red or Bluetooth to another compatible device. This is an excellent way of sharing images, without the need for downloading first, which is both fast and functional. This means cell phones do have an advantage over other photographic devices to a degree, as they do not yet have this feature. Koi Pond Aeration

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

By Robert Dorrance To achieve Koi pond aeration, there are some things you can do. One, you can go to your local hobby store or pet supply store and purchase one of those small air pumps, hook some tubing to it, along with an air diffuser or sometimes called an air stone, and place it in your pond. I still have the original one I bought about eight years ago, and its still working. This has run for almost eight years non-stop, they are very durable. It works two fold, one, to supply air to the pond water and, two, it helps to keep a hole open in the ice during the winter. Another way to obtain Koi pond aeration is to have different kinds of under water pond plants such as Anacharis and Hornwort. These plants will grow and spread out very well under water. Just kind of put them in small bunches in the bottom of your pond. Just so you know if your plant them in some kind of pot, chances are very good that your Koi will pull them out. Koi are always tugging and uprooting something. Waterfalls also provide a great way to help aerate the Koi pond. By constantly having water running down a waterfall and crashing into the pond, will help naturally aerate it. The combination of all the above suggestions will give you the results you need for proper Koi pond aeration. Robert Dorrance has had a pond for the last eight years and would like to share his experiences with you. Be sure to come by and download the free e-book, How To Build A Beautiful Backyard Pond. Why Most Railroad Job Applicants Don’t Get Hired

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Sean Martin Why is it that so many people go to railroad job interviews and dont get hired? Its easy to get carried away and just go to an interview thinking your going to ace it. However the cold hard reality is it takes proper preparation and the right answers to the interviewers questions. Sometimes you will be interviewed by a female and sometimes a male. It makes a big difference to your answers as to who is asking them. Many times you will be interviewed by both. Just because youre interviewing for a blue collar job does not mean you want to show up with a baseball cap on and a five oclock shadow on your face. You still need to dress respectful and clean cut. Another mistake I see potential candidates make is not being prepared. If the railroad sends you a letter or email and asks you to bring certain items to the interview with you then make sure you bring exactly what they ask for. I remember in my interview process two guys showed up without a copy of their application. The email they received from the railroad company said to bring a copy of your application. They did not. They were simply told to leave. No application No job interview If you cant follow simple instructions then they are not going to waste their time interviewing you.The next thing is your application. Your application needs to be completely filled out in detail. The railroad does not want to have to ask you questions to finish filling it out. If they ask for exact dates then get on the phone and start making phone calls to previous employers, references, etc Do what you need to do in order to get all the correct information they are seeking.OK, so now youre dressed appropriately, your application is filled out completely and properly, and you have brought everything to the interview process the railroad company asked you for Now what? The interview! Do you know what kinds of questions the railroad will be asking you? How about these three to name a few: Why should XYZ Railroad hire you? Why do you want to work for XYZ Railroad? Have you worked shift work before? Being prepared is the key to getting hired. The better prepared you are then the better your chances of getting hired. 10 Tips To Find The Partner Of Your Dreams

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Eran Malloch If you’ve been looking for the Partner of your Dreams, here’s 10 tips to guide you to a successful outcome - the love of your life! 1) Write it down. This might sound crazy, but before you can find the partner of your dreams, you need to define WHAT that partner is. By this, I mean a comprehensive description of the traits you want them to have, the basics of the look, types of interests, hobbies, etc. Its a known fact that to achieve your goals, you first need to define them clearly AND write them down. Goal setting coaches have been saying this for 50+ years. So, why should it be any different when it comes to finding your dream partner. As to WHY you should write down the details - simple really. It helps you focus on what you are looking for, and whenever you encounter a prospective partner, but youre just not 100% sure about whether they are right for you or not, you just grab your “list” and see where they match up and where they don’t. 2) Be realistic. This one is perhaps one of the toughest ones to deal with when looking for a dream partner. We all have these pre-conceptions of what kind of partner we would like (ie. rich, movie star attractive, no baggage, etc), but we also have to keep in mind 2 things. Firstly, NO ONE is perfect. Absolutely no one! So, if your expectations are that your partner will be perfect, then you might as well quit looking now, because you are only going to end up being disappointed. On the other hand, someone could be perfect for YOU - and there’s a big difference between the two. The second thing to keep in mind is that just because you have met someone perfect for YOU, does not mean to say they think you are perfect for them! You’ll also have to deal with this issue, and quickly, because otherwise things are going to get nasty real quick. For example (extreme example, admittedly), lets say you are a 62 year old man or woman who is unhealthy, unfit, a smoker, heavy drinker & financially not well off. Now, you might WISH to land yourself a gorgeous 22 year old hottie who will fulfil all your fantasies, but let’s be honest. The chances of that happening are extra-ordinarily low to non-existent. You just are NOT a good fit for the hottie, so you need to be (somewhat) realistic. 3) Have a Positive expectation. After point number 2 (be realistic), you might have just decided to give up and never try again. Well, that leads us on to #3, which is that you ALSO have to be positive about finding someone. If you are out there “on the market” long enough, and actively looking (rather than staying home and watching TV and waiting for your perfect match to walk in off the street and knock on your door), you will EVENTUALLY meet some great people, some of whom will be good possibilities. In my case, after my separation (and subsequent divorce) in 2002, I eventually got back into the dating scene, but didn’t have much luck for at least 6 months. Every time I met someone, it didn’t seem to go well, and I nearly gave up SOOOOOO many times. However, over time, I did manage to meet some nice ladies, and eventually (about 2 years down the track), I met someone wonderful, and we did end up falling in love. She was a new person who just happened to be right for me, and it would never have happened if I had given up after the first disasterous couple of dates. There’s a classic cliche that is SO TRUE, that it bears repeating here: You get what you expect! In other words, if you expect to meet the partner of your dreams and develop a great relationship with them, then that’s what will eventually happen. On the other hand, if you don’t expect to meet your dream partner and end up together, then that’s what will happen. It’s your choice - which is fabulous news IF you understood what I just said. 4) Clean Up Your Act. In order for you to be the person that your dream partner is looking for, you first need to be the best you that you can be. This means that you might need to do some work on yourself. Are you as fit, healthy and looking the best you can? If not, then are you prepared to work on it? Do you dress nicely, and make sure your hair looks good, your teeth are cleaned and even gargle with mouthwash - ’cause NOBODY wants to date halitosis-breath! No one is perfect physically. Heck, I should know. I’m overweight and could certainly stand to lose quite a few pounds/kilos, BUT, when I’m out there dating, I dress neatly, always shower, shave, do my teeth & even splash on a small amount of quality cologne (my poison of choice is Ralph Lauren’s Romance Silver), just to make sure I present myself in the best possible light. Nothing turns off a potential partner quite like you turning up looking scruffy, wearing un-ironed clothes, and not having made an effort. You don’t need to go out and buy lots of expensive clothes to do this either. I tend to shop at KMart or Target for most of my clothes because I’m not a name-brand clothes shopper, and they ain’t fancy…BUT the prices are good and the clothes are usually nice. If you’ve got no fashion sense, bribe a friend who has some to come with you and help you choose one or two nice outfits. 5) Get Out There and Meet People. The most amusing thing I have noticed about people wanting to find a partner, but who haven’t, is that they usually stay home and never go out to meet new people. Your dream date aint gonna come knocking on your door one evening and beg you to come out on a date with them, so get up off the sofa, clean yourself up and go out and MEET new people. Where and how is really up to your own personal preference. Myself - I hate pubs and clubs, so would never rely on those venues as a means of meeting a potential partner. On the other hand, perhaps you like those kinds of place. If so, great! Just be sure you go to a place that is likely to attract the kind of people you want to meet. If youre a lady looking for an educated intellectual kind of guy (like one friend of mine), then you probably won’t meet him at a rough pub where the blue collar workers hang out all evening drinking and smoking themselves silly. Go to an upmarket place that will attract the kind of person/s you want to meet. My personal favourite is online (or Internet) dating. I have done nearly all my dating via this medium in the last 3 years, and with several exceptions, I have found it to be a brilliant way to meet women without having to do the pub/club crawl. Join a social group, take up a sport or a hobby where you can meet prospective partners. Get into a book club, or photography, or whatever. There are so many choices to pick from - you’re bound to find one option that appeals to you. If you don’t get out there to meet new people, you’ll NEVER meet the partner of your dreams, so get off your butt and go out - and remember to have fun, whatever you choose to do. 6) Understand The Dynamics of The First date. Most of the mistakes are made in the first date, which usually means there isnt a 2nd date! Heres a few I have made, or learned about the hard way: Remember the K.I.S.S. principle (Keep It Simple Stupid). Make the first date something simple, like meeting for a coffee for 1 hour. That way, if they turn out to be the date from hell (or they think you are!), then either of you can do a runner quickly, without being locked into something drastic. Guys, it may be an old-world gentlemanly tradition, but resist the temptation to take a lady out to a fancy restaurant and buy her expensive flowers/gifts on the first date. K.I.S.S. - Trust me on this one. Ladies, if a guy is a gentleman and doesnt follow my instructions then at least have the good manners to thank him for a lovely night, and for paying for the meal, etc. I’m consistently amazed at how often that does not happen. It doesnt matter whether you want to see him or not - just show some manners. Actually, this equally applies to guys who are taken on dates by their lady. NEVER, under any circumstances, have sex on the first date (men or women)! Trust me when I say that if a serious relationship with the partner of your dreams is your chief goal, then leave the sex until a little later. Dont let lust cloud your judgement, because it only ever leads to grief. A kiss goodbye is fine though… Understand that the true objective of the first “date” is NOT to meet the partner of your dreams, but to decide if you like this person enough (and they feel the same about you) to meet again for a 2nd date. Keep things fun and casual - enjoy yourself, because even if you dont fall in love, you may make a new best friend! You don’t fall in love on the first date, no matter how stunningly attractive your date is - AND - if you do think you have fallen in love on the first date, it’s actually lust. A complex series of chemical reactions and mental/emotional connections is what makes you THINK you are in love. Trust me when I tell you it’s not love. Love takes time to develop and is totally worth the time and effort. 7) SWSWSW Next! Bet you’re wondering what the heck this means?!?!?! Simple - it stands for “Some Will, Some Won’t, So What. Next!” It’s the attitude you NEED to keep foremost in your mind when you start dating, because I can GUARANTEE you are going to hit some snags along the journey. And, when you hit those snags (and one day I probably will write a book about the snags I hit over the years), then you NEED something aside from pure willpower to keep you going. What does SWSWSW actually mean? Simply, it means some of the prospective partners you meet will be good candidates, and hopefully one of them will even turn into the partner of your dreams… and some of them won’t be good candidates! The key is, when they are a NO, you have to take the attitude of “So What!”, and move onto the next prospective candidate (Next!). My favourite saying to myself AND my friends when they have been out there dating is: “You only need to meet ONE right person! All the rest don’t matter…” If that’s the case, then you should keep in mind that some of the people you chat to, email with, or even meet for a date, will turn out to be NOT RIGHT FOR YOU! Pick yourself up off the floor, dust yourself down, and move on to the next one. At the end of the day, it’s the only way to keep sane when things seem like they are going downhill faster than an anvil falling from 20,000 ft! It’s one of the things that allowed me to recover from the devastation I felt when the relationship I had with the lady that I thought was “the one” unexpectedly fell in a heap on the floor six months after we met and fell in love. It’s the only thing that kept my friend going when the guy she started dating turned out to be gay! Remember, you CAN recover from it, so just keep on keeping on, and remember SWSWSW Next!, and you’ll be a relationship winner in time. 8) Do’s and Don’ts of Winning That Someone Special. By itself, this topic could take up a 20 chapter book and probably still require more content, but we dont have that much space, so here’s some killers I can personally vouch for. Be honest. Nothing gets a prospective partner annoyed with you faster than dishonesty. Dont tell them over the phone that you are 30, fit & athletic and good looking if you are 43, out of shape and definitely NOT attractive. Likewise, don’t tell them you are a non-smoker if you do smoke, etc. Don’t be desperate. There is ALWAYS another person for you to meet. ALWAYS someone who could be as good a partner as the one you are checking out now. So, don’t gush all over them on day 1, and tell them you love them on day 2, or ask them when they would like to meet your family and friends on day 3. 1 step at a time, tiger… Nothing puts a prospective partner off like desperation - it’s about as sexy as hemorrhoids. Don’t spend all the time talking about yourself. Ask them questions about themselves and LISTEN to their answers. People LIKE people who want to know about them, as opposed to telling someone all about themselves. Don’t be so self-indulgent that you dominate the conversation with your self centred anecdotes, because all you’ll do is show yourself to be egotistical and/or having a really poor self image. Neither trait is attractive. The classic Dale Carnegie self-help book “How To Win Friends And Influence People” is brilliant for giving you some good ideas on how to do this well. 9) Learn About Yourself And What Makes Relationships Work. I will make you a promise right here and now, even though I don’t know you, and I guarantee you that I will be 100% correct every time! That promise is this: Most of the problems you have in any relationship will be because of hidden baggage in your head and/or your partner’s head… AND, the only way to deal with these problems is to communicate openly (see the next point) and help each other deal with these issues. The worst part of this is that USUALLY you or your partner will not be fully aware of these hidden “relationship landmines”, but you will keep stepping on each others mines over time, and if there’s one thing that’s guaranteed to destroy a relationship, it’s fighting and dissatisfaction with each other, which is the typical outcome of exploding relationship landmines. In my opinion, one of the very BEST books you could ever read on this subject, as a way to help you understand what makes you and your partner tick is: “Keeping The Love You Find - A Single Person’s Guide To Achieving Lasting Love” by Dr. Harville Hendrix. This book was a life saver for me when my above-mentioned relationship broke up. It helped me understand WHY this happened and what I brought to the relationship that helped cause it, and what my then-partner brought to it that also caused it to collapse. Dr Hendrix has also written a similar book for Couples - I haven’t read that yet (but did give a copy of it as a wedding present!), but if it’s half as good as this one was, I recommend all couples buy it and read it together. No, I don’t know Dr Hendrix, but what I do know is that this book made a huge difference in my life, and if it helps even one other person like it helped me, then it will have been worthwhile telling you about it. 10) Communication Makes It All Work. This last point is really the BIG ONE (!) that can make or break a relationship. You see, without open and honest communication between 2 people in a relationship, the chances of that relationship lasting and both people being happy and fulfilled in it is a big FAT ZERO!!! The real challenge is that communication is NOT easy for some people. They dont like discussing their feelings and thoughts, especially if they feel those topics will bring up strong emotional feelings of pain or discomfort for them. Even though I consider myself a good communicator, I have also learned to my detriment that I needed some more work there in past relationships. One of my personal weaknesses is a strong dislike of confrontation and telling my partner when I am not happy about something they have said or done. There’s a hidden psychological reason for why I act this way (something I have identified), but at the end of the day, it gets in the road of a powerful self-expressed relationship. Every single person out there has an issue (or more than one) hidden below the surface, and until we can identify that issue, we can’t deal with it. However, if this issue causes a problem within a relationship, then you will need to learn to communicate with your partner in an open and honest manner, in order to help them understand why you say and do the things you do. Understanding the issue is the first step to dealing with these hidden problems, and that comes from communication between two people. If one partner is NOT open to communication, you’ll eventually find the relationship will NOT work, so choose carefully when it comes to picking your dream partner. An open honest communicator is much more important that someone who looks good or is rich, etc. Get help if you have problems with communication. There are PLENTY of great resources available, via book, tape, seminar, therapy and on the Internet. Just remember that no matter how strong the pain is, it will be far worse if you don’t deal with the issue at the root of this, and that will require you to be a great communicator (luckily, this is a learned skill and anyone can learn it!) OK, well I hope these 10 tips help you find the partner of your dreams. Being in love is special and something I wish for ALL of my readers. All the best for that next date, and remember… SWSWSW Next! :) About The Author: (C) 2005 Eran Malloch. Lose Weight Like A Model

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

By James Wilkinson Begin a cleanse - this is the way that most models lose weight, especially when they need to do it fast. Models are the one group of people who diet successfully. Its their job, their livelihood. So when you need advice, models are the people that you should naturally look to. And after the cleanse you should have increased energy, a better complexion and a sense of renewal and clarity. Take a holiday to a spa resort. There are some great places in Thailand or Mexico that models regularly visit to improve their health and lose weight. Make sure to drink your juices - don’t confuse cleansing with ’starvation diets’! Cleansing is a short term fix for cleaning your body and losing some excess weight. This diet allow the liver and kidneys to recover from all the toxic food additives and preservatives, pollution and smoke that enter our system every day without us even realizing. Take colon-cleansing herbs and Psyllium husks - these will help clean your system while helping you to feel a little more full. The diet involves the intake of little or no food, and instead just freshly-squeezed juices (carrot, apple, celery are good!). You can add something to make the drink more exciting - ginger is my favorite. Continue the cleansing diet for 3 days to a week, after which you should go back to your normal diet or consumption. Article Marketing - Your Resource Box is an Article Marketing Tool

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

By Carmellita M. Brown As an online entrepreneur who has been utilizing article marketing strategies since 2003, I have enjoyed its many benefits. These benefits have served me well as a Success and Wellness Coach, Website Publisher, and an owner of an Article Directory. In fact, I have done a lot of promotions and advertising online with Article Marketing and have found it to be a productive marketing strategy. However, like all forms of marketing and advertising online, there’s a way to do it and do it great. Because many Internet Marketing Professionals have learned the advantages of free online articles and monetization with AdSense and other Ad-generating programs, article marketing has become a leading and effective marketing tool on the internet. Not only is adding your articles for free a great resource, the author’s resource box is the extra added bonus. Similar to other marketing tools, you have to know how to work it. Accordingly, the author’s resource box differs from an author’s bio section. In a bio section, the author gives a brief description of themselves, their projects, their expertise, and what they have accomplished. An author’s resource box is much more concise. It is a brief resource for readers to follow for more information, products, or services related to the article. Similar to the author’s bio, the resource box is found at the end of the article. For example, if you were writing an article about hair care products, you would provide a link to a site related to hair care products or cosmetics. Why? You would provide this link because this is a resource for your readers. Ultimately, your resource box content will be related to the article’s theme. As such, it is essential that writers to consider these basic marketing and advertising factors when writing content for the resource box. Now, lets discuss some common mistakes made with the authors resource box: 1. Oversell will be an over-kill It is a common mistake most article writers make. Of course, you want to write a few sentences to you promote yourself or promote your website but you should never have a long list of every product, website, business opportunity, or item you sell or promote online. Additionally, too many details about your website can be overkill too. View your resource box as a “set-up”–a way to persuade your readers to click and learn more. 2. Be Consistent With the Article’s Theme It is very important to that your resource box remains consistent with the content in your article. It is critical that whatever theme you choose, you continue with it. One article can’t sell everything…you, your website, and a particular product all at once. A good method for remaining consistent with the theme of your article is to include content in your resource box related to the article’s content. However, a smart technique is personalizing your articles. With online article writing, it is not a requirement to be objective as with other forms of journalism. When you personalize your articles with a little bit of “you,” you can theme your resource box to be about “you” and the work you are doing online. 3. Keep Your Resource Box Information Relevant Do not confuse your readers. Don’t include content and information on products that were not mentioned in the article. Your readers want information that is beneficial to them; therefore your resource box should have content about the website or the product you discussed in the article. Again, you can spin this obstacle by personalizing your articles just a bit where the entire article won’t be subjective, but still personalized. An example of this strategy can be seen at the beginning of this article. 4. Affiliate Program Links Affiliate Marketing Professionals have to be especially careful. Affiliate Marketing Professionals have been trained to “pre-sell” with article marketing; however, Affiliate Marketers can do this much more effectively by using another method. The more effective method is to use your resource box to direct your readers to your Website or in your Blog which links to your affiliate through additional content. Editors and publishers of various article directories are quite fickle about you trying to “sell” your affiliate link on their sites. 5. Your Resource Box Should Be Short and Simple As you get more versed in article marketing, you discover that you want the content in your resource box to be like content in your article, short and to the point. Your resource box should be no longer than 3 to 4 lines, because most article directories give you limited space for your information. The sooner you get to the point and tell readers about a website or product and where to find it… the better. Again, your author’s resource box is a valuable for article marketing, internet marketing, and online advertising. By including unrelated information, off-theme content, and overselling or over pushing your websites and products, you are wasting your time and your readers. Think of it like other forms of advertising…KISP…Keep it simple please. Carmellita M. Weight Loss Surgery - The Benefits and Financial Cost

Monday, September 17th, 2007

By Beverley Brooke Generally, weight loss surgery such as the gastric bypass will cost between $20,000 to $30,000 the clinics do make substantial profits, which is why some you see advertised offer free chauffeurs and even airplane flights to the city and clinic. As in all lines of business, some surgeries will do all it takes to coax you there, within the law of course. If youve opted for weight loss surgery, the cost of such a procedure can be quite daunting. Many people simply cant afford the surgery without taking out huge loans which could end up crippling them financially. Is the surgery really worth the cost? As with all major decisions in a persons life, the benefits must be matched and compared with the cost, whether thats emotionally, physically or financially. With weight loss surgery costing so much, its critical that the reasons youre opting for the surgery are thought through extremely thorough, and in most cases discussed with your doctor. If for example youre suffering from a number of ailments and conditions because of morbid obesity, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, respiratory problems etc, and with the immediate health concerns morbid obesity brings possible early death, up to 7 times the risk of death from a heart attack and all the added problems that come with it just trying to operate in society alone, you may feel the cost simply isnt an issue, but you must work it into your current and future finances. Popping the Balloon of Belief

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

By John Dennison Im really excited. I just got a bigger soapbox, and I wanted to invite the rest of you to get up here on it with me. You may remember I was recently talking about how beliefs are at the core of our conflicts, yet those beliefs are built upon less-than-complete information. What is known is not all there is theres always something more. Yet we try to explain what we think we know by constructing complex belief systems around them, and fight to defend them against those who believe another way. Our egos are so fragile that wed rather fight than consider that the foundations of our thought and society might be built upon shifting sands. Maybe this seems farfetched. But lets look at the Middle East. The interplay of beliefs give us a prime example. One set involves religion, where ideological descendants of a common ancestor have fought for centuries under the guise of righting a perceived assault upon their God. Each fights to eradicate the other side, and hopefully the differing beliefs they hold. Superimpose upon this age-old fight an internal Muslim war between sects, along with a regional struggle between clerics and secularists, and the complexities grow immense. But thats far from all. Lets also not forget that most in the area live deprived of what many believe are basic human rights, often repressed by brutal regimes that crush dissent to maintain power and the status quo. All this while their citizens are awakening to an inner call to explore their own potential, fueled by worldwide communications that show what others already enjoy. Many are crying out to end this. Some even resort to terrorism, further complicating the mix. Now add in geopolitical struggles for money and power which are impacted by the areas crucial location over large deposits of oil. This lifeblood fuels mankinds technological march into the future, and allows us to enjoy a standard of living not even dreamed of in centuries past. Instability of any kind triggers fears our way of life may be impaired or lost altogether. Whew, it makes me dizzy just thinking about it. Weve given the existing institutions of government and religion a chance, and look what theyve done with it. Theyve showed us the answer is not in diplomacy. And it certainly isnt in war. Or in greater religious fervor. Or in any of the tools at their disposal. So let me suggest another way. What if everyone asked themselves, Why do we believe this stuff anyway? It couldnt hurt to just consider the possibilities. What if people found a way to connect to God and find meaning without religions that inherently pitted them against each other, whether intended or not? Not to replace one religion with another, but to find an inner spirituality that didnt need the institutions or structure? Where we all knew and felt connected to our source, so that all religions could go quietly into the night? What if people accepted that others who were different could live among them, and that this diversity both honored and accentuated the best characteristics of each? And that diversity was accepted as a gift to better know themselves, rather than an irritant to be tolerated? What if there were no struggles to govern among groups or sects because each truly enjoyed the ability to be itself without having to worry about either defending its differences or imposing them on others? What if governments were not run by either despots or leaders that curried popular favor by castigating opponents and fomenting social discord? Rather, their peoples were guided by an inner force (not an outer one inflamed by religion or politics) that allowed them, and their leaders, to find the seeds of peace within every conflict? What if people everywhere knew and trusted that their needs would be met as they arose, and that they could explore meaningful pursuits without bumping up against the efforts of others? This may be a dream, but it is certainly one that is within our reach. You know it as well as I do. But to make it happen, we each have to first hold out a vision of what can be. And then to commit ourselves to make it happen. Sure, there will be many objections and roadblocks. Religious institutions and governments will fight hard against it. Fear will bring resistance and maybe even greater strife in the short run. Patience and persistent effort will be needed to see it through. But who says the best things come easy? Isnt it time we stopped leaving the evolution of humanity up to chance, or at least quit pretending its out of our hands? Were at a point now where people worldwide can share ideas and visions. So why not work toward those that go beyond predatory commerce, politics, and religion? Why not believe that which serves us and our ideals, and promotes the common good, rather than sows the seeds of conflict and destruction? If this is a world where people go to war over beliefs, isnt belief theres a better way worth fighting for? I sure think so. What about you? Copyright 2004 by John Dennison. Durable Wooden Swing - Decorate Your Outdoors with One

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

By Jennifer Akre There is nothing better to do on a hot, lazy afternoon than to lounge in your favorite outdoor swing while reading, napping or just watching the world pass by. And when evening approaches and the breeze gets cooler, an outdoor swing is also the perfect place to sit and unwind after a hard day while you watch the fireflies light up the ever darkening sky. The truth is that an outdoor wooden swing offers more than just a place to sit and relax. Seating areas created with wooden swings become outdoor rooms and extensions of the home in which you can enjoy quality time with friends and family. You can place a wooden swing in your favorite spot of your flower garden, on your porch, overlooking a pond or just simply place it in your back yard. No matter where you decide to put it, a wooden swing will enhance your outdoor space and may quickly become the favorite spot in the house. And there are so many different wooden swings to choose from that you are sure to find one to perfectly match your personality, budget and existing dcor. You can choose from several different styles including Nantucket, Cottage, Adirondack and Rustic, just to name a few. You can also have your choice of several different types of premium, durable wooden materials including teak, cypress, pine and cedar. Take for instance the Sheraton porch swing crafted by Kingsley-Bate. Hand carved from Javanese teak wood in the ageless, romantic 18th century style, this wooden swing is breathtaking in its exquisite beauty. This particular wooden swing is assembled with precise mortise and tenon joinery, and will provide your family with a comfortable place to relax for decades to come. Since the Sheraton porch swing is constructed with teak, it is extremely durable. Teak, a hard strong durable yellowish-brown wood, grows in the region of Southeast Asia and is harvested from the surrounding forests and teak plantations by the locals. The wood of the teak tree is naturally resistant to insects, warping, splintering and the elements, which makes it an ideal wood for creating outdoor furniture. If you prefer something a little more classic in design, perhaps the Nantucket porch swing would be your best bet. This wooden swing features heavy construction and heavily scaled pieces crafted from Southern Yellow Pine. In addition to a natural finish, there are 28 color finish options available with the Nantucket porch swing which includes eye-catching colors such as lime, mauve and canary or more sedate colors such as sunny yellow, island green and white. You can also choose from several finish options such as natural, pristine, washed and distressed. No matter which wooden swing that you choose, you can be assured that you are selecting a piece of furniture that fits you and your family and one that will remain beautiful and durable for decades. Why not take a look? You may be surprised by how many choices you have.
